Hatchet 3 (2013) film analysis (Decker Shado video)

Hatchet 3 is Hatchet's horror film from 2013. It follows the ongoing adventures of Victor Crowley's adventures in Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp, as in addition to his brutal murderous rampage. Kane Hodder plays Victor Crowley and Brian Quinn is Deputy Winslow. Rileah Vanderbilt plays Misty.

Its use of special effects is the main strength of this movie. In contrast to many contemporary horror films which rely heavily on CG effects, Hatchet 3 features mostly practical makeup effect and sets--resulting in some truly horrific scenes throughout the movie.

The cast gives a solid performance with Kane Hodder being the most terrifying villain. The dialogue is funny and smart enough to make it seem like a slasher movie from the 80s. Additionally, there are several hilarious moments throughout that offer humor against the horror-inducing action.

Unfortunately, due to (blog) the small budget (1 million dollars) most locations were duplicates of earlier films. The boat house in Hatchet 2 was used only once, and the rest of the footage feels like it's been reused from earlier films. Hatchet or Hatchet II may find it familiar, and this can lead to the film feeling almost too familiar.

Overall, Hatchet 3 was an enjoyable series. I enjoyed the violent thrills it provided as well as the engaging performances by the actors.
